13th Battalion Unit History - 8 August 1915 – Australia Valley

All night we stood-to, for the Turks had massed in overwhelming numbers all over Kaiajik Aghala on our immediate front.  Finding no danger from Suvla, they turned their attention to our front.  At dawn on the 9th the Dere in front of “C” was seen to be filled with them.  They were rushing up the slope in small batches, but we withheld until 70 were right under us, when our hurricane fire wiped the whole of them out except half-a-dozen, who, escaping to shelter, worried us all the morning by sniping, hitting a dozen before the last was shot by Lt. Ford.  Our losses for the day were 10 killed, including Lt. Hartnell-Sinclair, and 21 wounded.
