"Witness and Peters were scouts in C squad, and after the landing at Suvla were attached to 161st Bgde.  (Essex) for duty.  Peters was killed on 28/8/1915 by a shrapnel bullet at Jefferson's Post (Kizlar Dagh).  They were at dinner at the time, and witness was about 15 yds from Peters.  Jefferson's Post is somewhere on the extreme left of the British line, quite a long distance from Anzac.  Witness buried Peters were he fell.  The Regt. knew nothing about it until witness reported back for duty in Sept.

Peter's service as a scout were much appreciated and, in recognition, he was promoted to L/C just a few days before his death.  His pay-book was forwarded to the authorities by the Essex Bgde. and his personal belongings were sent to his people by Cpl Garden of this Regt.
